Plug-In and Battery Smart Devices
Examples can include hubs, smart plugs, plug-in lighting controls, selected battery sensors and other devices that do not alter fixed wiring. The product should be customer-supplied with its normal app/account access available. NY-GoodHome does not claim manufacturer-dealer status or professional home-automation design.
App Pairing, Wi-Fi and Basic Device Setup
Basic setup can include powering the device, joining a home Wi-Fi network and following the manufacturer app pairing steps. The customer should provide network credentials directly as needed and maintain control of personal accounts. Complex networking, starting point replacement or enterprise Wi-Fi design is outside this page.
Smart Locks and Mounting-Only Hardware
A consumer device may involve mounting hardware, but actual lock installation/service can require locksmith licensing in New York City. NY-GoodHome does not present this page as locksmith work. If the product changes an existing lock, door security or access-control system, the request must be reviewed separately.
When Wiring Changes the Required Trade
Replacing a hardwired switch, thermostat, doorbell transformer or other fixed electrical component is not the same as plugging in a device. Those projects can require licensed electrical work. This page must not be used to bypass that qualification boundary.
Security Cameras, Doorbells and Alarm-System Boundaries
Security-camera and alarm-system installation can be regulated in New York. Mounting a simple consumer accessory does not automatically authorize a business to install a security system. Use Light Switch & Dimmer Installation or relevant HVAC pages only as scope references, and send the exact smart device through Contact before scheduling.
Before Setup
State whether the device is battery, plug-in, low-voltage or hardwired and whether any existing electrical, lock or alarm component will be removed or changed. That information determines whether the request stays within a non-regulated setup scope.
Project Details to Confirm
For each smart device, state whether it is battery-powered, plug-in, low-voltage or hardwired and whether it replaces an existing switch, lock, thermostat, doorbell or alarm component. Also note whether mounting changes the door, wall or electrical system. This screening step determines whether the request remains ordinary consumer-device setup or requires a licensed electrical, locksmith or security provider.
