Attached vs Freestanding Patio Covers
Freestanding covers rely on their own posts and bases; attached systems connect to the building and can affect structure, flashing and permits. Send the exact product and attachment detail.
Metal, Fabric and Insulated-Roof Systems
Rigid aluminum/panel covers differ from fabric shade products. The roof system affects weight, drainage and component handling.
Wall Attachment, Posts and Foundations
New footings, slab anchors or structural wall attachments require qualified review. NY-GoodHome does not promise those items through a generic cover page.
Drainage, Gutters and Roofline Interface
Roofed covers can shed water toward gutters or the building. Drainage/flashing should follow the product/design; NY-GoodHome does not guarantee waterproof integration.
Patio Cover vs Awning, Pergola or Pavilion
Retractable shade products use Awning & Shade Installation; open/louvered structures use Pergola Installation; larger covered kits use Pavilion Installation.
NYC Permit and Contractor Review
Foundation work uses the blocked foundation page, and custom attached construction can require contractors/permits. Use Contact only to screen a complete prefab product with site/attachment details until qualifications are resolved.
Before a Patio-Cover Request Is Screened
Provide the full manufacturer system, roof material, dimensions, freestanding or attached configuration and post/foundation instructions. Show the building wall/roofline if attached and the full patio if freestanding. Motorized or integrated-lighting features should be identified. Any new foundations, structural tie-ins or permit requirements must be separated before a prefab product can be considered.
Parts of this project may require a licensed, structural or specialist provider. The page keeps those boundaries explicit.
