Hairline Cracks vs Wider or Recurring Cracks
Photograph the crack pattern with scale and the entire wall area. A single stable hairline crack differs from recurring diagonal/wide cracking that may indicate movement.
Loose, Hollow or Bulging Stucco
Bulging or detached areas can signal bond/substrate failure. Large unstable sections should not be treated as a small surface patch without proper evaluation.
Staining and Moisture Clues
Staining can relate to gutters, flashing, roof/siding details or wall moisture. NY-GoodHome does not claim to diagnose every hidden water source from stucco symptoms.
Patch Texture and Finish Matching
Texture and color matching can be imperfect, especially on aged finishes. The page must not guarantee invisible matching or a full-wall recoat unless that capability is established.
Flashing or Substrate Problems Behind the Surface
If the wall assembly, flashing or underlying sheathing is failing, surface stucco repair alone may not solve the cause. Those issues require appropriate exterior-envelope scope.
Localized Repair vs Facade Restoration
Private localized hardscape/masonry uses the requires scope review Masonry & Concrete Repair, exterior coating uses Exterior Painting, and roof/siding interfaces have separate pages. Use Contact only for confirmed accessible localized repair.
Before Stucco Repair Is Screened
Provide approximate area size, height, crack width or pattern and whether the surface sounds hollow or shows bulging. Note when staining appears and any known gutter, roof or window leak nearby. If the work is on a high façade, part of a compliance program or involves widespread delamination, it should be handled by a qualified façade or masonry contractor rather than ordinary localized repair.
Parts of this project may require a licensed, structural or specialist provider. The page keeps those boundaries explicit.
