Finish Carpentry for NYC Interiors
Finish carpentry deals with the visible woodwork and installed details that complete a room. Photos should show the entire wall, opening or storage area rather than only one joint. Older apartments can have floors and walls that are not level or square, which affects fit and matching.
Trim, Molding and Casings
Baseboards, crown molding and wainscoting each have their own pages because the geometry and installation details differ. Door/window casings, chair rails and miscellaneous trim use Interior Trim Installation & Repair. The broad carpentry page should connect these services, not repeat their full copy.
Storage, Shelving and Built-In Features
For normal wall shelves use Shelving Installation. Wall-to-wall or alcove storage can use Custom Shelving & Bookcase Installation. Closet systems and freestanding furniture remain separate product-installation intents.
Cabinet and Furniture-Adjacent Carpentry
Kitchen cabinets have a dedicated page, and hardware-only changes have another. A customer may also need minor carpentry around furniture or cabinets, but custom fabrication or major cabinetmaking should not be implied by the word “carpentry.” Send photos and specify which element is being altered or repaired.
Older Walls, Floors and Out-of-Square Conditions
Pre-war walls, settled floors and irregular openings can affect trim joints, shelving fit and cabinet alignment. The work should follow the real surfaces. NY-GoodHome does not promise that old geometry can be made perfectly square without a larger renovation.
When the Project Belongs to a Dedicated Service
Use the most specific page whenever one clearly matches the job: Baseboard, Crown, Wainscoting, Shelving, Cabinets or Door/Window work. Submit mixed projects through Contact with a task list. Structural changes, permits and full remodeling remain outside this broad finish-carpentry page unless separately qualified.
Before a Mixed Carpentry Project
List each item separately—trim, shelf, cabinet, built-in or repair—and mark the relevant area in photos. State which materials/products are already purchased and which still need to be selected. If any task changes walls, openings or structural members, call that out explicitly so finish carpentry is not used as a catch-all for remodeling or structural work.
