Interior Trim Installation and Repair in New York

Interior trim includes the finish pieces around doors, windows and walls that are not already covered by the dedicated baseboard, crown or wainscoting pages. NY-GoodHome can review casing, chair rail, picture rail and selected decorative trim installation or repair in New York. Custom profile milling, ornamental plaster restoration and painting are separate unless specifically approved.

Details that affect the scope

Key project details include Door and Window Casings, Chair Rails, Picture Rails and Decorative Trim, Repairing Missing or Damaged Sections, and Matching Existing Profiles and Materials. Call NY-GoodHome to discuss the project details and confirm the next step. Share overall dimensions, wall and floor photos, the product or material system if selected, and any trim, fillers, patching or finish work that may affect the fit.

Door and Window Casings

Casings finish the perimeter of door and window openings. A repair may require matching the existing width, thickness and profile, while a new installation may involve several openings. Functional frame or sash problems belong to the Doors & Windows category rather than trim alone.

Chair Rails, Picture Rails and Decorative Trim

Rails and narrow decorative molding depend on consistent height, room layout and transitions around doors, corners or built-ins. Send a photo of the whole wall and identify whether an existing profile needs to be matched. Product availability can limit exact duplication.

Repairing Missing or Damaged Sections

Localized damage can sometimes be addressed by replacing a section, but brittle or obsolete material can make a clean match difficult. The adjacent trim condition should be reviewed before promising a seamless repair. NY-GoodHome does not claim historic restoration expertise from an ordinary trim service.

Matching Existing Profiles and Materials

Wood and MDF profiles are common, but older trim can have shapes that are no longer sold. Provide a straight-on profile photo with a ruler or dimensions. If custom milling is the only path to an exact match, that is outside the normal scope until separately established.

Uneven Pre-War Walls and Openings

Settled openings and uneven plaster can cause gaps or joints that need to follow the actual room geometry. The service aims for a practical finish, not a guarantee that old walls or jambs will become perfectly square without broader repair.

Choose Baseboard, Crown or Wainscoting When More Specific

Lower perimeter trim uses Baseboard Installation & Repair; ceiling molding uses Crown Molding; lower-wall panels use Wainscoting. For mixed finish work use Interior Carpentry or Contact.

Before Trim Work Begins

Measure the approximate linear footage and identify whether new trim will meet existing baseboard, crown, door casing or window casing. For repairs, photograph both ends of the damaged section so transitions are visible. If exact profile matching is important, include a ruler in the photo; otherwise the project may need a close stock match rather than an exact reproduction.
