Repair a Door vs Replace It
A door that sticks or will not latch may need adjustment rather than replacement. A split slab, severely damaged frame or poor fit can point toward a new door. Send photos of the closed-door gaps, hinge side, latch side and damaged areas so the scope starts with the actual problem.
Slab and Prehung Door Installation
A slab replacement reuses an existing frame/jamb and may require hinge and latch preparation. A prehung unit includes a new jamb and creates a broader installation around the opening. The customer should identify which product they have before the project is described as a simple door swap.
Sticking, Sagging and Latch Problems
Sticking can come from hinge wear, seasonal movement, frame shift or contact with the floor/jamb. Sagging can cause latch/strike misalignment. Normal adjustment is different from structural frame movement, water damage or a failed opening.
Hinges, Strike Plates and Gaps
Hardware adjustment can be part of a door repair when the door and frame remain suitable. Dedicated hardware-only requests use Door Handle & Hardware Installation. Large gaps, damaged jambs or rot may require trim/carpentry or replacement scope.
Door Frames, Trim and Out-of-Square Openings
Older openings may not be square, and replacement products may need fitting. NY-GoodHome does not claim structural opening reconstruction or permit work from a standard door page. Trim replacement can connect to Interior/Exterior Trim pages when finish carpentry is the main issue.
Choose a Specialty Door Service
Use Barn Door Installation, Pocket Door Installation, Patio & Sliding Door Installation & Repair, Screen Door or Pet Door pages when those intents apply. Send photos and measurements through Contact.
Before Door Work Is Scheduled
Provide the door width/height/thickness, photos of all gaps around the closed door and close-ups of hinges/latch damage. If a replacement door is already purchased, specify slab vs prehung and show the existing jamb. Exterior, fire-rated, storefront or security doors should be identified explicitly so a normal residential door page is not used for regulated or specialty work.
