Taping New Drywall Joints
New board joints, fasteners and inside corners require tape/compound systems applied in stages. Board must be correctly installed first.
Joint Compound and Multiple Finish Coats
Compound type/coats depend on the surface and finish goal. Drying time and temperature/humidity affect schedule; no fixed one-day promise.
Skim Coating Existing Surfaces
Skim coating can improve broad uneven surfaces but cannot correct structural movement or unstable plaster/drywall underneath.
Corners, Beads and Transitions
Outside corners, beads and transitions to existing walls/ceilings need sound backing. Damaged framing or loose substrate is separate repair.
Sanding, Dust and Paint-Ready Condition
Dust control/protection should be scoped realistically. “Paint-ready” needs an agreed finish, not a guarantee of perfect lighting-condition invisibility.
Finishing vs Installation or Repair
Use Drywall Installation for board hanging, Drywall & Wall Repair for damage and Ceiling Repair for ceiling-specific problems. Use Contact with area and finish expectations.
Before Drywall Finishing Is Scheduled
Provide total area, number of joints/corners and whether board is new, patched or previously finished. State the intended final lighting/paint condition and whether broad skim coating is expected. Existing loose tape, glossy coatings, damaged plaster or uneven framing can change preparation. Painting should be listed separately unless the final scope explicitly includes it.
